Brown opts against challenge
will not be throwing his hat into the ring to challenge for the presidency of the governing body next month.
While current president Neville Tyrrell can be assured of that, there still remains the possibility that well known Dandy Town and current BFA staff coach Mark Trott may challenge for the position.
Brown confirmed yesterday that his decision is final, despite the attempt by a number of club affiliates to lure him back to run against Tyrrell.
"No, I have decided not to be a candidate for the BFA in any capacity,'' said Brown, who intimated that Trott could be the lone challenger.
Brown, who was terminated from the role of administrative assistant back in 1993, revealed that he met with affiliates on a few occasions and was asked about his views on soccer.
"I understand that Mark Trott is running, but the fact is that I thought about it after a while and had a discussion with my wife and we just thought that after being in administration in sport in Bermuda for 43 years that was long enough,'' said Brown.
Brown admitted that the fact that he was asked showed how much those involved respect him as an administrator by wanting him to run the biggest sporting organisation in the Island.
"Well, I was in fact honoured that I had been asked by some of the affiliates, they know my capabilities, they know my past and my history. I am the most successful administrator in the history of this country and in all different sports at that,'' he said.
"Mark Trott is out there and he is a bright, upcoming young man and I have decided in view of past and in view of what is happening within the sport that I would stay on the sideline.'' Brown admitted that he hasn't been closely associated with any sport since leaving his BFA post more then seven years ago, but noted that he was aware of the concerns of the affiliates.
And he agreed that steps like those currently being put forward by various affiliates were needed to challenge those currently holding down top posts in soccer.
"I have been concerned about the way the sport has been going for some time now and it's really not going as well as it could be and I know that I have the ability and the know-how to lead it where it should go,'' he stressed.
