Cann quits St. David's

The talented all-rounder confirmed this week that he had handed in his transfer form with the intention of moving to neighbours St. George's, with whom he plays in the annual Cup Match classic.

"I am transferring over to St. George's. There is nothing more to say about the move right now,'' commented Cann.

The move comes about just before Cann would become eligible to play for St.

David's again, having served a six-month ban for making derogatory remarks about the club's management committee in November.

The ban ends on April 14.

Cann had called management a "bunch of jokers'' after they appointed Graham Fox to the post of coach instead of his preference, Clay Smith.

Delby Borden, chairman of the St. David's selectors, said yesterday he was unsure whether Cann's decision was confirmed. But he said he was aware that Cann was training with St. George's.

"I don't know what's going on. But we have a few good looking youngsters here at St. David's who are going to have a shot at playing this season and things are looking good,'' said Borden.

"We have a good nucleus in senior players like Del Hollis, Allan Richardson, Dean Pitcher, Reg Pitcher and George Cannonier. And we will also have Graham Fox as a player all season after he missed a lot of last season because of personal commitments,'' added Borden.
