Doubles delight for Charleton, Corcoran

Charleton put paid to a strong field of challengers to claim victory in the inaugural Island Construction Star Search `Calcutta' Doubles snooker tournament.

The pair clinched the title in dramatic fashion over Tony DeSilva and Greg Falzone, as Charleton, with the score even at 103-103, produced a daring stroke to rattle home the black ball, bringing the crowd at Old Colony Club to their feet.

A final score of 110-103 was the result which capped off an adventurous evening for Cocoran and Charleton.

Along the way the duo disposed of Stephen Pantry and John Ray, Stephen Roberts and Mike Tatem, and Lawrence DeSilva and Roger Henderson.

Charleton, maker of the tournament's high break of 30 received valuable contributions from the lesser experienced Corcoran, who seemed to save his best for `crunch' time.

Meanwhile, DeSilva and Falzone downed five-time Bermuda doubles champions Terry Southern and Robert Gaglio in their first match and then made quick work of combinations involving Tony Dawson and Fred Smith, and father and son Dave and Chance McLean en route to the final.

The next in the series of Island Construction tournaments will be the singles tournament to take place on January 7.

PAUL CHARLETON -- along with Gavin Corcoran captured snooker doubles title.
