Goal-happy Eagles embarrass Parish
On a day when rain washed out games involving Second Division league leaders Southampton Rangers and three others, second placed Somerset Eagles took full advantage at White Hill Field as they overran a depleted Hamilton Parish team.
Parish paid dearly for fielding just eight players and if goalkeeper Trent Simmons hadn't been as efficient as he was the final score might have been even more embarrassing.
Eagles' top scorer Terrence (Sluggo) Christopher led the onslaught with four goals while Everette Wellman followed with three. Single goals were netted by player-coach Gary Mallory, Wallace Wellman, Oscar Riley, Vince Bean and substitute Ricardo Simons.
Parish started with just seven players and once the eighth arrived Eagles had to work harder to take the upperhand.
But the only player who caused Eagles any real concern was goalkeeper Simmons who made several sensational saves to restrict the home team to a 4-0 lead at the interval.
Simmons was injured after 44 minutes while making one of his heroic saves, but he still turned out for what proved to be a punishing second half.
Eagles took full command after the break as Parish showed signs of tiring, and when Simmons could not shake off the pain from his injury the team were reduced to seven men with his departure after 75 minutes.
The second half produced eight goals with the over-anxious Eagles' forwards putting numerous other chances wide of the mark.
Eagles started the game tied with Social Club on 12 points, but now the White Hill club hold down second place alone.
St. David's 1 Prospect 1 A goal in extra time by Shane Weeks enabled St. David's to snatch a point from Prospect at Lord's.
The equaliser came with the home team staring defeat in the face after Prospect had taken a deserved 1-0 lead through John Richmond who scored five minutes before the half.
The games at PHC between Social Club and Southampton Rangers and at Frog Lane Field between Port Royal and Wolves were both postponed because of the poor condition of the fields.
