three penalties and five conversions as Police were handed their second loss in as many weeks.

Heaney scored almost at will during Renegades' 44-12 rout although the win doesn't change their current last place position in the league.

Renegades went ahead early through a converted try after only six minutes when second row Peter Morton went over from close range.

Heaney added three more points with a penalty four minutes later to give Renegades a commanding 10-0 lead.

Police reduced the deficit with a try from Mark Adams and a conversion by scrum half Tim Carr to make the score 10-7.

But that was the closest Police ever came to Renegades as fullback Pat Jones and winger Iwan Jones added a try each, and Heaney chipped in two conversions for a 24-7 score at the break.

Young winger Michael Kane's blunder -- he dropped a highly flighted ball deep in his own half -- allowed Adams to score a second try.

However, any thoughts of a Police comeback were stymied as Heaney machine began to gather momentum.

He scored two penalties, a conversion and a try within seven minutes to put the game well beyond Police's reach.

Renegades were now ahead 37-12 but Heaney was not through yet. Number eight Ali Nicholl gave his side five more points when he powered over from one yard, a try which Heaney, with some assistance from the upright, converted to end the rout.

In the first match Mariners trounced second-placed Teachers 38-20. The teams were deadlocked at 3-3 for most of the first half with a penalty from Teachers full back Andre Simons and Mariners' fly half Declan O'Laughlin.

But Teachers went into the break ahead 8-3 after number eight Noel Capewell scored following a precision pass from Dennis Cherry.

O'Laughlin kicked a penalty three minutes into the second half, but Teachers surged ahead 13-6 after Ashley Redmond's move found David Cooke deep on the wing.

Ross Webber and Andre Simons were next to score for Teachers with a try and conversion respectively, and the Reds enjoyed a 20-6 cushion.

Mariners, spurred on by a boisterous cheering section, fought back with tries from Dominic Hardy and Dave Conway and a conversion from O'Laughlin.

Teachers began to wilt in midfield as Conway, Hardy and skipper Keith Beattie applied consistent harrasment in the form of continuous penetrating surges.

An O'Laughlin penalty ten minutes after the interval put Mariners ahead 21-20 and they never relinquished the lead.

Beattie fed an overlapping Hardy for his second try that O'Laughlin converted.

Simon Birdie and Conway added a try a piece to seal the victory.

Police beat Teachers 15-13 and Mariners crushed Renegades 26-3 in second XV action on Saturday.
