Keishon delivers killer blow

Keishon Smith's second-half winner was enough to send Town tumbling out of the Friendship Trophy in an action-packed tie at Devonshire Rec. last night.

The Bermuda international striker's decisive goal came just a minute after the interval when he latched onto Derek Wright's chipped free kick and steered the ball calmly past Town 'keeper Antoine Lightbourne.

But only some incredible misses limited the scoring to three goals. Town, in particular, will wonder how they failed to add to Darron Simons' solitary goal.

Town started the game the livelier, but it was Colts who almost drew first blood after 12 minutes, when Aljame Zuill smartly dispossessed Dano Outerbridge and shot first-time, only for Lightbourne to make a fine save.

Zuill proved to be a headache for the Town defence throughout the first period, none more so than when he laid on the opening goal after 17 minutes.

Zuill made good ground down the right flank and his low cross somehow evaded a clutch of Town defenders and made its way through to Tito Smith, who made full use of the time given to him to rifle the ball low into the bottom right-hand corner.

Within 60 seconds came the first of the night's many missed sitters. Seyoum Tuzo was the culprit, shooting wide of a gaping goal after Simons' pass had left him with only Colts' keeper Troy Hall to beat.

But the equaliser did arrive in the 28th minute when Reggie Tucker lobbed his cross beyond the far post and Simons unleashed a fierce left-footed volley which gave Hall no chance.

Keishon Smith got the second half off to a stunning start and from then on, the pace of the game became increasingly frantic.

Devarr Boyles went inches wide with a 35-yard howitzer which Hall could only admire and then the Colts 'keeper reacted sharply to deny Tucker from close range.

Colts should have gone further ahead on the hour when substitute Marvin Belboda made a powerful run down the left and pulled the ball back beyond the reach of Lightbourne, only for Jerome Laws to shoot wide of an open goal.

The Colts backline held firm against Town pressure and Belboda almost sealed their win on a counter-attack with a tremendous effort, jinking his way into the area before hammering a thunderous shot against the bar.

Sekai Waldron cleared off his own goal-line in injury-time to deny Town an equaliser as Colts survived a late rally before Lawrence DeShields whistle was the cue for their celebrations to start.

PHC 5 Somerset Eagles 0 Two goals apiece from PHC's Kenny Mills and Sammy Swan sent Eagles crashing out of the Shield Competition at Devonshire Rec. last night.

Swan started the rout with the opener after 11 minutes and Mills added two more before half-time in the 25th and 34th minutes, to effectively settle the tie. Stephen Astwood's clever lob in the 66th minute and Swan's low drive from a tight angle 11 minutes from time were the icing on the cake for PHC.
