Kyle, David to tour with Walsall
enough of David Bascome in his first training session yesterday to decide to include both Bermudians in the 20-member squad they will take to Ireland today for a four-match training stint.
And while the pair have taken the first steps towards securing a professional contract with the English Third Division team, former Hereford pair Meshach Wade and Kentoine Jennings were unsuccessful with trials at Premier League club Coventry City.
As a result Jennings has opted to return home while Wade, the Bermuda captain in the recent World Cup campaign, has decided to travel on to First Division side Stoke City for further trials, having been previously lined up with trials at Preston North End.
Stoke were promoted as Second Division champions last season and are managed by former Manchester United player Lou Macari. Both Wade and Jennings were extended trial offers by Stoke's chief scout Bernard Paintin and Wade will travel to Stoke as soon as he has finalised his travel arrangements with the club.
Lightbourne, released by Scarborough towards the end of last season after less than a season with the Third Division club, is keen to have another crack at professional soccer in England, as is Bascome who played professionally indoors in the United States with Harrisburg Heat.
No doubt Bascome is encouraged by having impressed the Walsall coaches so quickly, having just arrived at the club last Friday. Lightbourne was there a week earlier. If Bascome is not successful at Walsall he will travel to Stoke City for further trials.
