Lack of wind foils dinghy fleet
fitted dinghy races was sailed on Sunday in Granaway Deep.
After a long delay, only three boats got underway at the official start.
Elizabeth sank on her approach to the stake boat and a late Port Royal hauled off well after the rest of the fleet had gone.
Challenger , sailed by Martin Siese, led for the entire race with Victory and Contest trailing behind.
The conditions were such that at one point Siese led by quite a considerable distance before running into a dead patch of water in the middle of the course.
At the last windward mark, Victory and Contest had managed to close the gap to a couple of boat lengths, but there was nothing really left in the race.
The breeze had clocked so far over the west that it ended up being a reach to the mark. Rounding the leeward stakeboat, the boats tacked onto starboard and the only concern for the skippers was staying afloat, as it was nothing but another fetch to the finish.
Challenger held on to her lead to place first, followed by Victory and Contest . Port Royal was a distant fourth.
The next race on the schedule will be held in St George's Harbour.
