Late goals leave Blazers empty-handed
Once referee Stuart Crockwell penalised a late-returning North Village, almost resulting in a goal, you could tell that the second half of this match at St.
David's Oval was going to be a far improvement on the first.
Either side could have taken the lead but it was left to the unlikely left-back Arthur Simons to give the visitors that vital goal in the final minute.
Then, substitute Kaiwon Dill wrapped it up three minutes into stoppage time after a dreadful defensive error.
The first half was abysmal. There was plenty of effort, with Amon Brown of Boulevard and Village's Larance Durham looking most capable of troubling the defences.
But there was hardly anything else. Boulevard's Mitchell Steede had only one shot to save while at the other end Dwayne Adams was called into action to handle just the odd cross.
The most significant action then were the enforced changes after injuries to Boulevard defender Donnie Charles, replaced by Mitchell Trott, and Durham.
Village appeared more adversely affected as young Dill's early contribution was almost nil while fellow teenager Sri Wilson on the other flank also had a difficult time of it.
The Red Devils must have thought they were on holiday during the interval as they emerged from the dressing room several minutes late and then took their merry time.
Referee Crockwell waited for seven players to `grace' the pitch before starting and the Blazers quickly headed goalward before Neil Robinson's deflected drive looped over with Adams struggling.
Once they weathered the ensuing corners, Village were on par but Boulevard still created the first openings.
Brown was put through on the right in the 53rd minute but made a mess of his attempted pass to Dwight Warren.
A few minutes later, Robinson closed one of his patented diagonal runs with a left-foot drive that, while it did not trouble Adams, offered signs that someone was willing to test the Bermuda 'keeper.
Village continued to struggle coming forward with little or no support for striker Elliott Jennings but Boulevard increasingly ran out of ideas. And that is when Michael Hansey picked up his game and Village's to turn the tables.
The Red Devils beat Steede for the first time in the 69th minute but Irving Romaine's fine header from a Nakia Smith free kick ballooned off the crossbar.
Four minutes later, Robinson showed some of his defensive ability to deny Village after Dill, Jennings and Smith combined well.
The Blazers would have their chances too with sub Vincent Tuzo failing to control a Warren chest pass from in close in the 75th minute and then Warren having Adams pull off the game's best save a minute later when he was alone in front from 15 yards.
The Village defending at that time, having hitherto done so well, was atrocious and there would have been no way back from a goal down.
But that bit of inspiration from Adams was enough to prompt a series of drives which shaped the destiny of the three points.
Hansey struck the underside of the bar with five minutes to go after a neat bit of skill, then Smith brought a fine save from Steede after Dill crossed.
Boulevard looked like they would weather the storm, even when consecutive shots were charged down in the 89th minute.
But, on the third, Simons used the outside of his left boot to good effect, giving an unsighted Steede no chance from 25 yards out on the left; the ball settling inside his far post.
And, to add insult to injury, Village notched a second when Vernon Eve, who could have had two goals himself for the home team, made a mess of a clearance, leaving Dill the simple task of scoring from point-blank range.
