National Sports Club maintained their grip on the First Division leadership with a 5-1 victory over bottom side St. George's Dinghy and Sports Club.

Leading the Devonshire club was Paul Charleton, who comprehensively defeated St. George's Irvin Hayward 115-13, making breaks of 26 and 35 along the way, before teaming with Kyle Thompson to defeat their East End rivals in the doubles.

For his efforts Charleton was named player of the week, while Nationals moved two points clear of Sandys Sports Club I at the top.

Sandys lost ground as they were held to a 3-3 tie by Warwick Workmen's Club.

The lone remaining First Division match saw Old Colony Club I and Queens Club II similarly battle to a 3-3 stalemate.

Meanwhile, Patty Miller of Old Colony Club III claimed Second Division player of the week honours on the strength of a 53-30 defeat of Richard Sousa.

But Miller's heroics were not enough to prevent her side losing 4-2 to Spanish Point.

The other Second Division match saw Queens Club II beat Sandys Boat Club 4-2.

The following is the draw for the first round of the Gosling Trophy Knock-out to be played on November 23: Nationals v Sandys Sports Club II; Old Colony Club III v Old Colony Club II; Police v Spanish Point BC; Old Colony Club I v Warwick Workmen's Club; Queens Club II v St George's D&SC.

CROSS COUNTRY CC Laura Turner finished more than a minute ahead of the rest of the secondary school girls field as the fourth race of the BTFA/Minute Maid junior cross country series took place at Hog Bay Park on Saturday.

Over a new, hilly course, Turner completed the two one-mile laps in 14 minutes, 40 seconds, well ahead of second-placed Velvet Smith (15.51) and third-placed Nicola Mello (16.30).

Just three runners turned up for the secondary boys' race with Collin Anderson (18.03) finishing almost two minutes ahead of Ki-Jah Butterfield (19.54). Kris Hedges took third place in 20.52.

Akila Mills took primary girls honours with a time of 8.46 over a single lap, ahead of Shamika Telford (8.57) and Ashley Roberts (9.02).

The primary boys race proved the closest of the day with just four seconds separating the top three runners.

Kemar Curtis grabbed victory in 8.07 ahead of Richard Walcott (8.10) and Aswad Wilson (8.11).

This Saturday the junior races will be held at Astwood Park, starting at 9.00 a.m.

GOLF GLF Henry Ascento cruised to a five shot win in Saturday's Bermuda Golf Association monthly medal when he carded 67 over the Ocean View course.

Ascento's nearest challenger was Hav Trott who fired 72 while three players -- Tor Boswick, Dennis Robinson and Eldon Raynor -- all carded 74.

Madeline Joell and Pat Morgan led the the small ladies field, each returning scores of 78.

The next BGA medal has been rescheduled for Port Royal on December 17.

CRICKET CRI American touring cricket club Sunrise handed Bailey's Bay a seven wicket defeat when the teams met at Sea Breeze Oval on Sunday.

Led by batsman Paul Singh, who represented the US in this year's ICC tournament in Kenya, Sunrise scored 125 for three in 29 overs in reply to Bay's total of 121 all out in 28 overs.

Bay's top bats were C. Dill and T.Smith who both scored 22, with the bowling damage inflicted by S.Pass (3-38) and S.Mohammed (3-17).

Sunrise easily reached the required target with Singh hammering an unbeaten 80.

SAILING SLG Alexandra Crane continued her winning ways in Hamilton Harbour on Sunday, sweeping the Optimist Dinghy fleet with six straight victories for a perfect score.

Her nearest challenger was Alexander Lines who notched four second places and two thirds for 11 points.

Alexander Kirkland placed third overall with a second, three thirds and two fourth place finishes.

CHESS CHS The Mutual Risk tournament remains wide open after an upset win by George Ben over Nigel Chudleigh which leaves five players tied for the lead.
