National team look to experiment

new-look Bermuda national team during their three-game tour opener at Nationals tomorrow, starting at 6.30 p.m.

With new coach Peter Shillingford introducing a change of strategy in training, the Bermuda squad are reportedly motivated and anxious to put some of the new ideas into practice.

"Training has been varied slightly to encourage a more open flow of the game, something that will encourage the players to be more supportive,'' said skipper Alvin Harvey.

"We have been working a lot more on open play and phase ball because a lot of the scores come from second phase ball. Another thing we've been attempting to do is concentrate on set pieces and getting players to always be in support of one another.'' Heriots, however, aren't expected to be as formidable as Saracens who toured earlier in the season and consequently Bermuda should be more competitive.

But the Scottish team will probably be larger physically, causing the local squad to rely more heavily on their speed.

"Our pack will probably be a little smaller, but hopefully we can be a little more mobile, more alert and hungry for the ball,'' added Harvey.

"There are a few changes in the squad with a few players being unavailable.

We are putting in a couple of players to see what they can do at this level.

They have done well in training. The guys are probably a little tired but looking forward to finishing the season.'' Heriots play their second game on Tuesday against Renegades and their third against a Bermuda Select next Thursday. All games are at Nationals.
