Perriers' fall halts racing

Motorcycle Racing Club's latest meet.

Perriers was taken to hospital and the then lack of an ambulance put paid to the usual number of races at the Clearwater Beach track.

Before the incident, Mark Lightbourn had carried on where he left off, taking overall victory with much-improved Zip rider Virgil Vermonde second. Scott Hunt and Perriers shared third as only two heats were held.

The season's Mini Bikes pacesetter, Paulo Silva was once again untouchable.

However, he may soon be facing some competition for the top spot as Andrew Jones, one of the brightest stars to emerge this year, took the runners-up place. Last year's most improved rider, Termel Wolfe, was third.

Grand Prix B took to the track next and Leroy Trott was uncatchable, lapping the field up to second-placed Jason Dennis. Dennis was second in all three heats and Alex Dowling took the last podium spot.

With championship leader Dennis Wilson sidelined, the door in the Stock/Modified championship was open for newcomers to grab some of the glory.

Perry DeSilva proved victorious in all but one of the heats to take the honours. Ray Thompson, awaiting delivery of a Grand Prix machine, took second on a borrowed bike. Glen Mello, riding Wilson's machine, came home third.

Formula saw the addition of Eric Dunkley to the usual field of two. He did enough in the first two races to take the overall win, with Vince Belboda, who rode in four of the six classes, second and Ed Daniels third.

Racing after the Scooters, Grand Prix A Class was also hit by Perriers' fall.

Only two heats were possible and Ray Masters and Shannon Caisey split the honours with a win each. Grant Goudge came in in a distant third.

The next race day is scheduled for March 25.
