Prospect triumph

Two-and-a-half months after their last victory, Prospect produced the biggest upset between two Second Division teams this season when they ended Hotels' hopes of a promotion and Shield double last night.

For the second straight season the bottom team in the division has advanced to the Shield final, as against all expectations Prospect turned the tables on the Second Division champions.

Last season Paget, then in last place, beat top team Devonshire Cougars in the final. But this time the favourites failed to get to the April 6 final after Daniel Reece's 83rd minute strike stunned Hotels. After a tense last seven minutes when Hotels threw everything at their opponents, Lawrence DeShields' final whistle was a welcome sound to the Prospect players.

Just moments before Reece's winner, Hotels' Craig Crichlow put a shot against the crossbar. After a couple of corners which followed, a long ball upfield by Lloyd Holder sent the speedy Reece racing through the Hotels defence before placing his low shot into the corner.

It was hardly the result that was expected as, just a couple of days before, Hotels buried Prospect 7-2 in the league.

"We had 11 players tonight,'' said Prospect player-coach Robin Hollinsid who pointed out that Prospect started and finished the match short on Sunday.

"We weren't playing that well throughout the season so we had to fight for something,'' said Hollinsid. "We were looking forward to this cup game, we fought hard and that was the reason we won.

"We had said from the beginning of the season that we had been in the Shield final and never won. Now we want to go up to the carpet and win it.'' Teammate Tracy Adams thinks the team has what it takes to stop the Trojans.

"We tend to play more together as a team in the cup games,'' said Adams.

"We're looking forward to taking on Somerset and if we play like we did tonight I'm sure we'll get a result.''
