Robinson opts for Somerset
Robinson confirmed last night he had thrown his hat into the Somerset ring.
The St. David's batsman was chosen by both Cup Match clubs to play in a trial match today after a week of speculation as to which club he would choose. But last night he confirmed that he had opted for Somerset.
"My decision was made on Tuesday,'' said Robinson, who delivered a letter to St. George's Cricket Club yesterday confirming that decision.
"I thanked them for their interest.'' Robinson has been uncomfortable with the attention he has received this week after it emerged that both clubs wanted his services.
"I don't see myself being that good a player to get all this publicity,'' he said last night.
"I don't like a lot of publicity. I still feel I have a long way to go before I am an outstanding player. I still have a lot to do mentally.'' Robinson will turn out for Albert Steede's team against Dexter Basden's side in a match that starts at 10.00 a.m. And though he may have a better chance of making the Somerset team this season, he isn't overconfident. "I can't take anything for granted. I hope to keep on good form and hope the selectors feel I can do well for them.'' Tomorrow in Premier Division Open League action, leaders St. George's travel to Somerset to meet Willow Cuts while second-placed Police and Western Stars, fourth, meet at Police Field in what should be the top match.
Open champions Bailey's Bay are favoured over Devonshire at Devonshire Rec.
while in the other match Cleveland meet Southampton Rangers at Wellington Oval. All games start at 11.00.
In the First Division, Warwick meet Somerset Bridge at Southampton Oval and Somerset are away to St. David's. Leaders Flatts have a bye. In the other match Social Club meet PHC.
