The Royal Gazette has learned that the volatile player was banished to the sidelines after causing "continued disruption'' in training and during matches.

Club president David Kneisler yesterday confirmed the suspension, but could not say how long Darrell would have to serve, while team manager Brian Adcock was unavailable for comment.

Darrell joined the club at the beginning of the season after spending most of his early days at North Village where he had fallen out of favour with the coaching staff.

It was thought that a change of scenery might be good for Darrell and at first it looked like he had found new life at newly promoted BAA.

However, it did not take long for Darrell to get back in the headlines for things other than his soccer ability.

In early November the player was involved in a fight with an unnamed darts player at the club. Darrell was said to have attacked his opponent with a pool ball after a prolonged argument. Both were subsequently suspended, Darrell for 18 months and the darts player six months.

The ban was subsequently overturned by management, which directly led to assistant soccer coach Mike Lindo to resign from his position.

Darrell, whose last appearance occurred during a 2-0 loss to Boulevard on December 18, continued to play, but repeated dissension by the player led management to impose the current suspension, one that would seem to have effectively ended the 1994-95 season for Darrell and possibly his First Division career.

Meanwhile, another club, North Village, will also have to make a decision on the status of one of their first team regulars after a dispute between player and coach.

Defender Kacy Simons faces disciplinary action after he walked off the pitch while a match was in progress.

The incident occurred during the first half of a February 9 Friendship Trophy tilt featuring Village and Somerset. Somerset won the match 1-0.

During the proceedings Simons was admonished by coach Robert Calderon and threatened with early substitution.

A mild shouting match ensued resulting in Simons casually walking off the field of play, gathering his belongings and heading for the showers, leaving his team to play a man short until such time as a replacement was found 10 minutes later.

While a formal decision has not been made by management, Calderon left no doubt as to his view of Simons' status.

"As far as I'm concerned he is on suspension until the club makes a decision,'' said Calderon. "I've made a report to management. They have it, but have not made a decision as of yet.''
