Sousa's new pony quick off the mark

Elite and Jonnie Five's two-year-old Grand Willy during a double-header of harness racing at Vesey Street over the weekend.

But A/B's Elite stay in the slowest category didn't last long as she raced out of the bar over the two days, winning all four of her races.

In the B Division of the 27 bar, Jannaway and Michael Rodrigues tasted victory for the first time this season, winning both their heats on Friday.

However, it was Jandy's Giddy Up Go who ruled the roost on Sunday, winning both heats and racing out of the time bar in the process.

Bad Boy Tony and Nicholas DeCosta, also raced out of their time bar on Friday, winning both heats but could only manage a second and a third in the faster time bar on Sunday.

Just a Gigolo, with Michael Roberts driving, had two seconds on Friday but improved to take two firsts on Sunday against Charger's Rob Roy and Spencer's Taylor Maid who has just returned to the track after 18 months off in which she gave birth to a foal. She is being driven this season by new driver Charles Whited Sr.

In the 16-19/4 bar A Division, Trotacre Abby Lass and Paschall Duckett continued their victory streak by winning both races on Friday. However, on Sunday it was Bermuda Warrior (Francis DeSilva) who crossed the wire first.

In the B Division, TW Second Try (Fernando Rego) won both heats on the Friday, but Paceway Debutante, having the advantage of pole position, took revenge by winning both heats on Sunday.

Abby Dabby Doo enjoyed three wins out of four with new driver William Madeiros. Maple Hill T Bird won the other heat in the 1:12/2-1:15/5 bar.

Hoe Down with new driver Samantha Stevenson won both heats on Friday but had to contend with two seconds on Sunday, being unable to get around an improving Grand Magic and Joseph Viera. Sandacre Tashiba and Sandtrap brought up the rear on both occasions. Daniel Greenslade and Pondababe continued their unbeaten run in the 1:10-1:12/2 bar, winning all four heats over the weekend despite strong challenges from Carolina Jubilee (Murray Terceira) and Melody Time (John Flood). Gusto's Cracker Jack is having gait problems and was no threat in any of the races.

The free for all went to Eddie The Great (Michael DeCosta) on Friday with Shamrock Tuxedo and Pleasant Surprise unable to find a way past. On Sunday, however, it was Tuxedo out in front, winning both heats and putting up the fastest time of the season so far, 1:08 flat.

This Sunday's driving show has been called off because of a lack of entries.

Instead, another race meet has been scheduled at Vesey Street.
