St David's to celebrate
tomorrow as St. David's take on last-placed Ireland Rangers at Somerset.
PHC have already gained the first promotion spot from the Second Division, and now St.David's are hoping to wrap up the other -- and at the same time kill off the slim hopes of Somerset Eagles, the only other team with any chance of denying the Islanders.
St.David's play Eagles in their last game of the season but coach Eugene Crockwell wants to settle matters long before then.
St. David's need just two points from their remaining two games to clinch promotion and the coach says he'll be taking the champagne to White Hill tomorrow.
"We want to wrap up things against Ireland Rangers on Sunday, not wait until our season finale against Eagles. We just need two points to do it and why not go all out for them right away?'' said Crockwell, who is in his second year as head coach.
With Vasco snatching the thunder in the First Division race, tomorrow's attention centres on the battle for second place between Dandy Town and North Village at Bernard Park.
The teams are tied for second place but Town have a superior goal difference.
With two games remaining, an interesting contest remains for the top six which will determine qualification for next season's Martonmere Cup. Vasco, Town, Village and Wolves are virtually assured of their places while Somerset, Devonshire Colts or Boulevard hope to join them.
Also of interest is the relegation issue with Southampton Rangers desperately attempting to avoid being dragged into a battle with Cougars. Hamilton Parish have already been relegated.
Rangers will aim to do no worse than a draw against Somerset while the other clash has fourth placed Wolves meeting sixth placed Colts at White Hill.
