Tour opener ends goalless

The women of soccer provided an entertaining, if goal barren, opener for the Dudley Eve Trophy final with Bermuda battling the highly-regarded St. Francis Xavier to a standstill in the Canadian team's tour opener.

A fairly even first half saw the fight for domination taking place in midfield, with St. Francis winning the joust but unable to capitalise.

Their best chance came five minutes from half-time when an indirect free kick inside the penalty box saw Patricia MacDougall fire a shot over Bermuda's defensive wall only to have goalkeeper Kim Simmons appear from nowhere to make the save.

The second half witnessed more in terms of shots on target as Shequita Parsons twice had efforts turned away by the 'keeper in the 59th and 62nd minutes.

Meanwhile, Julia Lorefice and Patricia MacDougall fired shots wide of the mark for the visitors as action alternated from end to end.

Tonight sees the Nova Scotia school taking on reigning League and FA Cup champions BAA Telecom at BAA Field.

BAA have recruited four guest players to take up the slack due to the loss of regulars Kim Simmons, Cassandra Wales, Terri-Lynn Paynter and Leslie Cherry.
