Tourists skittled by Cleveland spin attack
78 runs in a tour match at Sea Breeze Oval on Monday.
The American tourists were undone by the Harris Bay club's spin trio of Peter Philpott, Johnny Richardson and Hugh Murray, as they crumbled to 70 all out in reply to the 138 total posted by their opponents.
Philpott claimed four-for-10 from six overs, while Richardson and Murray took three-for-14 and three-for-29 respectively as they continually baffled the Sunrise batsmen.
High scorer for Sunrise was Paul Singh with a well crafted 40, but he received little assistance from the rest of the order.
Batting first, the home side amassed their total on the tails of 63 runs from the bat of Allan Douglas, who came in at number three.
Also contributing were openers Grant Smith (12) and Curtis Jackson (10), while Terry Smith scored 10. However, Sunrise were guilty of being wayward in their attack, with 33 of Cleveland's runs appearing in extras column.
S. Ballie claimed three-for-36 for Sunrise, while S. Das took two-for-40.
Douglas was happy, not just with the result, but being able to take part in a match which he felt served to promote goodwill between the clubs.
"We don't usually get the chance to be in tour matches of any kind, so this was a real exciting and enjoyable thing for us,'' said Douglas afterwards.
"To us it's a stepping stone and we look forward to going to New York next year and making this an annual thing.''
