Wellman third in London
Grand Prix in Crystal Palace last night.
Wellman leapt 16.83 metres (55 feet, two-and-a-half inches) but was some ways behind Latvian Maris Bruziks (56-51 ), the silver medallist at the world indoor championships and England's Jonathan Edwards (55-7).
The Bermudian, who is in line to soon receive a belated bronze medal from the world indoors, is gearing for the world outdoor championships in Stuttgart, Germany, from August 13-22.
Promising middle-distance runner Marco Perinchief set a new personal best time in the 800 metres in Toronto recently.
Perinchief, 19, ran in three meets in Canada, including the Harriett Tubman Track and Field Classic, and his times of 1:54.86, 1:56.4 and 1:56.6 representing a 15-second improvement in the past three years.
Perinchief represented Bermuda in the CARIFTA Games last year in the Bahamas where he was a finalist in the 800 metres in a time of 1:57.02. He also won a bronze medal with the 4x400 metre relay team.
Last summer at the Junior CAC Championships in Honduras, Perinchief was a finalist in the 800 metres with a then personal best time of 1:56.5. He also ran a 1:56.1 in Bermuda a couple of weeks ago prior to going to Canada.
Another Bermudian, Sharif Taylor, 17, also competed in one of the meets in Canada and recorded an 800 metres time of 1:56.98. Both runners are due back in Bermuda today.
