Whalley's team take over at top

of the Goodwill Tournament standings was a short-lived affair, as they fired an impressive net 58 at Mid Ocean yesterday.

The four-man team hailing from Reading, Massachusetts, led by professional Ed Whalley, along with amateurs James Rollins, James Showstack and Robert young, took a liking to the spacious par-71 course, duplicating their score posted a day earlier at Belmont.

At a combined total of 116, the Americans lead by a stroke over their nearest opponents, Bermuda's own Ocean View Golf Course and Bedrock Golf Club.

Ocean View were one of four clubs returning spectacular rounds of 56 at Riddell's Bay yesterday. The local club were led in their quest by top local pro Dwayne Pearman, with Chris Phillips, Cleveland Smith and Renalda Bean partnering.

Bedrock, with long-time visiting pro Joe Carr, Marty McGrann, T.(Hack) McDonnell and Jeff Raymond, fired 61 at Riddell's Bay.

Morris County Golf Club and Spring Lake Golf Club stand locked at 127 in the battle for the gross division crown, with Crystal Downs, Ocean View and Raleigh Country Club next at 130.
