Wright, Fisher finish first again

cross country series on Saturday, both winning comfortably over a difficult course across the Warwick sand dunes.

With Brett Forgesson coming off an injury, Wright was never challenged as he romped over the near six mile route in 36.56.

His closest rival, almost a minute behind, was Errol Cormack (37.43) with top Master Harry Patchett placing third in 38.28. Forgesson took fourth in 40.54.

Fisher also won her race by almost a minute over a three mile loop, clocking 21.21.

Julia Hawley finished second in 22.19 and Melanie Claude third in 23.09.

Meanwhile, Secondary schoolgirls Velvet Smith and Suella Matthews resumed battle in the junior cross country series, which also started and finished at Horseshoe Bay.

And it was Matthews who came out on top by just three seconds, clocking 17 minutes, 49 seconds over the approximate 2.2 mile course.

Nicola Mello placed third in 18.21.

Laura Turner, who normally dominates this category, lost her way and completed the senior women's course instead, recording a time which would have placed her third in that age group.

The secondary boys' event saw Collin Anderson record another win over a three mile course, finishing in 20.57, almost half a minute up on second-placed Mark Constable (22.24). Kris Hedges placed third in 22.41.

In the primary division, Emma Rego returned to form winning by seven seconds (13.13) over the previous week's winner Akila Mills (13.20). Claire Kimbel wasn't far behind in third place in 13.59.

Laura Turner's brother, Brett, showed there's plenty of talent in the family as he made a first appearance in the primary boys race and dashed to a convincing victory in 11.57 over the 1.5 mile course. Richard Walcott placed second in 12.19 and Matthew Trott third in 12.33.
