Butterfield ....

Devonshire Cougars defender Omar Butterfield has backed his team-mates to continue their promising start to the season when they take on parish rivals Devonshire Colts tonight.

Cougars recorded an impressive 3-0 victory over much-fancied Dandy Town in their opening match of the Premier Division and Butterfield insists they are confident over overcoming an out of sorts Colts.

"We have preached the motto of taking one game at a time all preseason," he said. "The match against Town is over, we got the win and must now focus on Colts. We have to continue to work hard in training and let our performances do the talking.

"We are not worried about Colts or any team we come across this season. We will do what needs to be done and move one. Once a game is done it's done and we can't do anything about it. As long as we do what we are supposed to do, things will work out for us for us this campaign I'm sure.

"It is excellent to get off on a winning note and get a win against one our main contenders for the title. This is good for not only the players, but the coaching staff and fans as well. It takes the pressure off in a sense as we're off the mark and can move forward in a positive fashion."

Butterfield also revealed that the pre-season prediction of Gazette sports reporter Derek deChabert, published last week, which stated that Cougars would finish no higher than third position hit a nerve with the men from the Den.

"The pre-season predictions touched a nerve a bit as we know that we're better then third place. But realistically we have to stay in reality and know that things don't work for you all the time."
