BTFA to stage timing course
Bermuda Track and Field Association (BTFA) will begin an electronic timing course this weekend at Berkeley Institute with instructors from the Durham Striders Timing and Meet Management company, based in the USA, running the show.
So far 18 people have signed up for the course, including those from the various BTFA affiliate clubs as well as school PE teachers.
The course runs from Friday to Wednesday.
One of the BTFA goals this year has been to operate the electronic timing equipment that they have had for several years, with the intent of using the technology for the majority of their track meets.
Donna Watson of the BTFA says she has been encouraged by the amount of people signing up, stating that the course will benefit both the Island's athletes and administrators.
"We are encouraged with the response that we have received for this course, showing us that there are many people out there who are interested in seeing track and field move forward in Bermuda," said Watson.
"The equipment will give us more accurate results, especially for all qualification track meets being held for our international events.
"We are excited with the response thus far and are looking forward to a successful course.
"We are not charging the affiliates for this course as our expectation is that they will volunteer their time throughout the season assisting with our track meets."
