Healy and Ellison picked for Windies
Bermuda national rugby players Tom Healy and Jack Ellison have both made the West Indies training squad for the prestigious Hong Kong Sevens.
Both players starred for Bermuda who missed out on qualifying for a place in next year's Rugby Sevens World Cup in Dubai at the recent NAWIRA Sevens competition in Nassau in Bahamas.
Bermuda opened their campaign against Mexico and came out on top in a fiercely contested encounter winning 10-5 with Ellison and Tom Edwards scoring for the Islanders.
The USA then trounced Mexico 52-0 to set up a match against Bermuda to decide the group winners, but a strong USA side ran out 31-0 although USA coach Al Caravelli praised Bermuda and said: "To Bermuda's credit they threw us off our game plan in that first half."
On Sunday Bermuda then beat Cayman 17-0 with skipper Bobby Hurdle scoring two tries and Ellison grabbing a third.
The impressive win set Bermuda up with a match against Canada, but by then the physical and mental exertions had begun to take their toll and Canada won comfortably 42-0.
Bermuda then lost convincingly to the USA in the semi-final and had to settle for a third place play-off against reigning champions Guyana.
The Caribbean side had six of the West Indies Sevens squad on their team and won emphatically 42-0.
Bermuda ladies team, playing their first ever internationals, were placed in a tough group with USA, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
Their lack of experience told as they succumbed to a 45-0 defeat to the USA, before falling 41-7 to eventual Caribbean champions Guyana and 36-0 to Trinidad & Tobago. In the quarter finals Bermuda faced Canada, who went on and win the qualifiers, and lost 34-0.
The defeat placed them in the bowl semi-final against hosts Barbados who they beat 15-10 to record their first international victory.
The final of the bowl proved a bridge too far as tiredness took over for Bermuda and Jamaica won comfortably.
