Runners tackle 'new' half-marathon
Bermuda's road runners will continue their preparation for January's International Race Weekend tomorrow when they take part in Bermuda Track and Field Association's revamped annual Half-Marathon.
A new 10K and fun walk will be held in conjunction with the 13.1 miler.
A decline in entries in recent years forced the governing body to change the route of the Half-Marathon with many would-be competitors unhappy at the point-to-point course which began in St. George's and finished in Hamilton.
Now the event will mirror January's International Half-Marathon course, taking the runners on a route which starts and finishes on Bermudiana Road in Hamilton.
The new 'Beyond Barriers' 10K and the longer race are being held as fund-raisers for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bermuda.
Both courses have been certified by the USTAF, the governing road running organisation in the USA. Both races are scheduled to start at 8.30 a.m.
International Race Weekend 2009 is scheduled for Friday, January 16, 17 and 18.
