Four second-half goals guided North Village to their first victory of the season as they swept aside 10-man Devonshire Colts 4-0 at Police Field yesterday.

Defender Damon Edwards got the ball rolling for the visitors while strikes from Ralph Bean jr, Keith Jennings and Tarik Jennings secured the points and lifted the Rams to fourth place.

Yet the final scoreline flattered Village and in the end it was determination that got them over the hump as both sides let gilt-edged chances go begging throughout the first half.

Colts skipper Aljame Zuill missed his side's best chance to score midway through the opening half, firing a volley wide of the post after some intelligent work down the right flank by Ryan Nesbitt.

It was Zuill's opposite number, Bean, who had the next real chance. However, he made a hash out of his attempt.

After being sent behind the back four, Bean had the simplest of tasks in chipping Dyke Lawrence but could only chip into the goalkeeper's arms.

Just when fans thought the second half would go the same way as the first, Edwards rose above a crowded penalty area from a corner kick and planted his header into the roof of the net in the 63rd minute.

And from that point forward, there was only one side realistically capable of winning the match and the ensuing play made this point stick.

Nesbitt, who for all his worth was unable to get the breakthrough for his side despite his tireless running, was given his marching orders when he used offensive language towards referee Alton Reid after a flailing elbow apparently hit him.

Down a man and a goal, Colts then conceded two goals in two minutes after woeful defending gifted Tarik Jennings and Bean their opportunities, with Jennings striking first in the 74th.

Midfield maestro Keith Jennings wrapped up the scoring in the 86th minute outjumping his marker.

The win moved Village from sixth to fourth in the table, three points behind early leaders Devonshire Cougars.
