Thompson joins Touré in new TV commercial
Female footballer Kenni Thompson will feature in a television commercial with Manchester City star midfielder Yaya Touré.
The Bermudian, who plays with Saint Gabriel in the junior Cadete — Juvenile Femeni Preferente Division in Barcelona, successfully auditioned for a supporting role in the commercial which was recorded at an undisclosed location in Catalonia last month.
It remains unclear when and where the production will be released.
Thompson, 14, thoroughly enjoyed the experience and privilege to meet and work alongside the Ivory Coast midfielder, who won Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey honours during a phenomenal stint at Barcelona before joining City.
“He’s huge,” said Thompson, who also had stints with Barcelona and Cornella.
“He was really nice when he came over and talked to me about stuff. I was surprised because he was speaking to a lot of people in lots of different languages and I was like ‘what is he saying?’”
As for the commercial, Thompson explained: “When you go to do the casting you had to do juggling (a ball) and they said I was good so we went to the main area where they planned what was going to be in the commercial.
“I had to get up at 5.30am to be somewhere at 6.15am so it was a lot of work.”
The Saint Gabriel winger’s father, Kenny Thompson, the former national player and coach, added: “It was interesting that she was asked to do a commercial with Yaya Touré.
“To do that commercial was a good experience first of all to be close to a player like Yaya Touré but also to see the process of how these things are produced when they bring a major star into that environment.
“For me it was just a good experience for her.”
