The heavens opened up yesterday morning to the delight of scores of residents, following an exceptionally dry start to summer. The Bermuda Weather Service report that as of 3pm yesterday the Island had experienced 0.29 inches of rain.So far in 2011, Bermuda has only seen 12.61 inches in rain. This is down more than 10 inches from the national average of 23.56 inches. In the past 30 days 0.63 inches of rain has been recorded.Weather is expected to be “unsettled” through Thursday morning, as the body of low pressure northwest of the Island merges with a cold front moving in from the US East Coast.More overcloud and showers were expected last night, with a possibility of thunderstorms; and sporadic rain is expected over the next few days. The Bermuda Weather Service has predicted a return of sunny weather by Friday. The string of below-average months led Public Works Minister Derrick Burgess to issue a reminder to the public to conserve water.Mr Burgess said a great deal of pressure had been put on Government to provide water and urged residents to check water tank levels so they can order supplies a week before running dry. ll For more information visit www.weather.bm.
