Mexico Under-19s no match for Bermuda

Bermuda’s Under-19 rugby team stormed to a 59-6 win over the Mexico Aztecs in their second game of the North American Caribbean Rugby Association tournament in Mexico City.The opening try came via Bermuda full back David Lunn who went over in the corner although the conversion was missed.Bermuda remained on the offensive with another driving maul from the base of the scrum which was pulled down by the Aztecs, leading to a penalty which Lunn kicked making the score 8-0.The Aztecs continued to struggle to defend Bermuda who continued to tick over the scoreboard with another well converted penalty by Lunn.Bermuda scored again when Lunn off-loaded to the supporting Tristan Kermode for the second try of the day, which Lunn converted.Another catch and drive from the lineout worked well with Ngarryan Darrell breaking from the back to score under the posts, which Lunn again converted to give Bermuda a 25-0 lead.Minutes later the Aztecs got on the scoreboard with a penalty making the score 25-3.Bermuda increased their lead when Jabari Robinson rumbled over line from five yards out. The conversion went wide but Bermuda were now fully in control with a 30-3 advantage at half-time.Flanker Lliam Nash was next on the scoreboard with Lunn’s conversion extending the lead.The Aztecs got a second penalty to reduce the deficit to 37-6 before Lunn produced his second try of the match when he scored as a result of a quick penalty by captain Dylan O’Kelley-Lynch.Matt Thompson added another try before the hard working O’Kelley-Lynch scored with a 70-yard run from the kick-off to touch down under the posts. Lunn added another conversion.Eddie DeSilva then struck a drop goal from the back of a Bermuda scrum to leave the final score 59 -6.Bermuda must wait to see what happens in the final match of the pool between Trinidad and Mexico to find out who they play on finals day.They were beaten by Trinidad 19-11 in their opening game of the championships.A penalty from centre Tristan Kermode gave Bermuda a promising start against Trinidad, who were defeated in last year’s final by Cayman Islands.Trinidad full back Jamal Stewart exposed gaps in Bermuda’s defence to dive home for a try which was converted by Sebastian Navaro to give his side a 7-3 lead at half-time.Kermode reduced the deficit with another penalty early in the second half but Tariq Cheeks scored a try for Trinidad to extend their lead to 12-6.As Bermuda began to tire in the Mexico sun, Trinidad winger Anderson Joseph scored another try which was converted by StewartBermuda rallied late on and were rewarded with a try by full back Scott Heany but ran out of time before they could secure a losing bonus point.In Sunday’s other match, Cayman beat Mexico 11-6.
