Gayle Lindsay has conceded she may not be in a position to defend her women’s title in the Butterfield & Vallis 5K tomorrow.

The top runner is still recovering from the effects of competing in last weekend’s Chubb Half Bermuda Triangle Challenge, which will ultimately determine her availability for tomorrow’s race.

“My legs took a beating last weekend, so I want to give them time to properly recover before I hit them hard again,” Lindsay told The Royal Gazette.

“I’m just holding off at the moment to see how well recovered they are, but possibly have to sit this one out.”

Lindsay is not the only high-profile runner that could potentially be missing from the women’s race as Rose-Anna Hoey is also considering skipping the event for the same reasons.

“I am not sure about Sunday yet,” said Hoey, who won the PwC Bermuda Marathon women’s title last weekend.

“I got some bad blisters from Sunday’s humidity and rain and my feet are pretty sore.

“My son is doing the children’s race, so if my toes feel better I will.”

Nearly 800 runners have already registered for the event ahead with that number expected to increase before the registration deadline which expires at midnight tonight.

Meanwhile, last year’s men’s winner Adam Prunty has also yet to register for the race amid speculation he could also potentially be absent this year.

The race begins at Butterfield & Vallis on Orange Valley Road in Devonshire and ends at the company’s branch on Woodlawn Road in Hamilton.

Races start starting at 8.30am with a 1K event for lower primary students.

At 9am, the primary and middle school boys and girls will run the 2.7k route and 30 minutes later, the senior school students and adults will run 5K. Walkers will start five minutes after the runners.

The first 900 runners to finish will receive a medal and $500 will be awarded to the primary, middle and secondary schools/junior groups with the most entries.

All runners in this year’s race will be raising funds for Action Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Registration remains open in all age groups. To sign up, go to racedayworld.com.
