Perfect Miguel Power takes control at National Optimist Championships
Miguel Power finished with a flawless record on the opening day of the 2024 Bermuda Optimist Championships on Saturday.
Power, who was the best Bermuda finisher when eighth at the Renaissance Re Junior Gold Cup last week, won all four races on Saturday to finish the day on an unbeatable four points.
There is still time for that to change with another four races scheduled for Sunday and three on Monday and there are a number of sailors within touching distance after a blustery day in the Great Sound.
Nina Gotfredsen is the leading female at the regatta and sits second overall on nine points after finishing runner-up to Power in the first three races and third in the final race of the day.
Thomas Mcbain occupies third position with 13 points after finishing in the first three in three of the four races contested, while Harry Brown (20pts), Noah Amaradasa (25pts), James Ganal (25pts), Finbar Lohan (27pts) and Evan Davis will all head into day two hoping they can compete for a spot on the podium.
There were 33 sailors in action on the opening day with 21 able to pick up points of some sort.
In the Green Fleet, which is for more inexperienced sailors and takes place in Hamilton Harbour, James De Couto won all four races to take an early lead over Alondro Albuoy and Jacob Beale
