Minors bags late winner for Warriors
St David's 2
Somerset Eagles 1
Landro Minors came off the subs' bench to grab a late winner as St David's punished Somerset Eagles for some poor finishing at Lords yesterday
In a frantic finish, with St David's laying seige to the Eagles goal, Minors reacted quickest in a goalmouth scramble ten minutes from time to deny the visiting side a share of the points
A draw would have been the least that Somerset deserved, but they paid for sitting back and trying to protect a point, as well as wasting several guilt-edged chances to kill the game earlier on
St David's meanwhile were rewarded for making key substitions in the second half with Minors, Angelo Cannonier and Anthony Burchall teaming up to add much needed punch in their attack, and not panicking when they fell behind with less than three minutes gone
Unlike the end of the game, Eagles got off to a flyer, and the ever impressive Troy Tucker put them ahead when he punished a defensive lapse by St David's
The visiting team should have been two goals up after 16 minutes when Marcelos Thomas sent over a defence-splitting right-wing cross, only for Shakir Smith to somehow manage to head wide from close range
St David's made them pay soon after, and despite struggling to come to term with the windy conditions, fashioned an equaliser through Donte Albouy, who finished off a nice one-two with right-back Diego McCallan
The goal largely came against the run of play, and the Eagles dominated the rest of the half, however they failed to make the most of a variety of chances created by Smith and Adolphus Lam bert and it ultimately cost them the game
Eagles had a chance after 61 minutes to go two goals up again when Thomas put his angled shot from 14 yards just wide of the far post
St David's were then allowed to come into the contest with momentum with Anthony Burchall making an appearance after 68 minutes off the bench to add more life to the attack And it didn't take long before his lively thrust down the left flank began to worry Eagles defence
After 75 minutes Eagles were reeling and Cannonier's close-rang shot after two raids was sensationally pushed around the post by Karl Brown in the Eagles goal
More St David's pressure was to follow and the inevitable equaliser came when Minors scrambled the ball home admist a packed defence
