Wells on verge of Carlisle contract

Carlisle United trialist Nahki Wells is to play in an in-house friendly match later this week as he looks to convince manager Greg Abott to sign him on a permanent deal. The former Dandy Town striker has been unable to train with the English League One side since impressing in a behind closed doors friendly last month due to the bad weather in England. But he will have another chance to catch Abott's eye when Carlisle's reserves take on the club's first team at Morecambe's Globe Arena on Thursday.Mark Ellis, the coaching director at the UK-based International Academic & Soccer Academy (IASA) where Wells attends, believes the Bermuda international is on the verge of winning his first professional contract.“(Carlisle) have only been training indoors because the weather has been so bad, so it's been a waste of time getting Nahki up there,” said former Bradford City winger Ellis, who recommended Wells to the Cumbrian outfit.“I'm really pushing for him and I'm hoping to get some good news on Thursday after the friendly match when I'll be speaking to Greg (Abott). Nakhi's probably one or two training sessions away from signing pro to be honest.“I know his last training session for Carlisle is a week on Monday because he returns to Bermuda the next day, so that could be when a decision is made.”Wells and his Bermuda Hogges team-mate, Tahj Bell, arrived in England earlier this year to study at the International Academic and Soccer Academy (IASA) a programme where American youngsters can study for a degree and receive football training. The 19-year-old has also attracted the interest of Hull City after plundering a hat-trick against their reserves while playing for the IASA earlier this season.
