Lighty urges PHC to claim second

Kyle Lightbourne believes finishing runners-up in the Premier Division this season would represent no more than an adequate return for PHC.With North Village having ‘unofficially’ won the title thanks to their massively superior goal difference, PHC are battling it out for second place with Dandy Town who are one point behind them. The side that finishes runners-up will be eligible for next year’s CFU Club Championship qualifiers a competition Hornets are keen to enter for the second successive season. And while it’s not known if PHC would act upon that entitlement should they come second, Lightbourne believes it’s important the club at least has that option. “If we get the three points on Sunday then we come second, that’s a credible finish for us,” he said. “I think we’ve let ourselves down at times, we’ve also had a lot of suspensions and injuries and missed players at key times. He added: “Whoever finishes second can enter the Championships, that’s always been the case.“Often teams choose not to take that option because of the costs involved. It’s definitely a avenue clubs should be looking at though. It also makes our own domestic season more interesting if there’s a fight for second place.“It’s up to PHC (whether they would enter the Championships), do they want that expense or not? We didn’t take that option when we finished first last time.”Lightbourne has been rumoured to be stepping down as PHC coach at the end of the season, although he refused to confirm whether their game against Boulevard on Sunday would be his last.“I’ve got a meeting with the club and then I’ll make an announcement,” he said.
