Ex-Chelsea star Cooke teaches local coaches
Women’s football coaches Jenay Bailey-Edness and Jaylen Symonds-Bean got the chance to pick up some valuable knowledge from former Chelsea star Charlie Cooke as they attended the two-day Coerver Youth Diploma Clinic in Oakville, Ontario. The two Bermuda Brazilian Football School (BBFS) coaches took part in the clinic along with 41 coaches from the greater Ontario area.Cooke, co-founder and head of Coerver North America, led two days of instruction. The seminar focused on both classroom sessions with a core focus on practical training, with the classroom sessions touching on subjects from training schedules, psychological matters when dealing with children, social conflicts and selecting the right drills and training times for your specific age groups. The main theme was developing players from the under-five to under-17 groups.Much of the focus was on attacking play and the technical skill sets and tactical decision-making.“The sessions were very intense as Brett Mosen had invited the new PDL franchise of Hamilton FC to act as players during the drills,” said BBFS CEO Cal Blankendal who was also in attendance.“The coaches were also invited to participate and Jenay Bailey-Edness and Jaylen Symonds-Bean had an opportunity to showcase their skills.“Such was their performance and conduct that they received a standing ovation on more than one occasion as they held their own against the semi-pro male players.“At the end of day one Chelsea legend, Cooke, singled them out for their workrate and technical ability in front of the 41 coaches.Edness and Bean will now be tasked with preparing the BBFS Under-12 and Under-13 girls for their 12 day tour to Europe this summer, with the assistance of Blankendal. The BBFS trio have been invited to attend the first ever Coerver Advanced Diploma course which will be held sometime during the next 12 to18 months.
