Hornets, Trojans to meet in Friendship semis

The semi finals of both the Friendship and Shield competitions will throw up holiday treats over the festive holiday after the draw was made yesterday at the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) headquarters. The Boxing Day headliner will see Dudley Eve champions Somerset Trojans tackle Digicel Premier Division champions Dandy Town at Wellington Oval.Hamilton Parish will play BAA in the first match which kicks off at 12.30pm, followed by the match of the day.The two Premier Division sides are familiar foes having played a few classics over the past 12 months, with Town winning the last match between the two sides.Town skipper Damon Ming believes those who attend the match will see fireworks, and hopes that a run in the competition will kick their league campaign into high gear.“We feel that as long as we stick to our game plan and play how we know we are capable of playing then the result can really go in our favour,” he said.“The league campaign for us hasn’t been too bad given we are normally a second half team and just need to focus on the task at hand, but a sustained run in this competition will certainly help our confidence heading into the new year.“It also allows us to get a good run out over the Christmas period rather then just sitting at home doing nothing. We beat them in our league campaign but it won’t be the same as that match, and at the end of the season I truly believe that Somerset will be in the running come the end of the season.“It will be a big game and we are looking to come out with a positive result.”The second semi finals of the two respective competitions will see Devonshire Cougars clash with Southampton Rangers, while Devonshire Colts will take on Somerset Eagles at Goose Gosling Field next Thursday night.Rangers will be seeking revenge from their last encounter with the Big Cats when they were thrashed 5-2 at the Den two weeks ago.
