Trojans triumph over Onions in ‘dangerous’ game
Somerset Trojans extended their unbeaten run to three games with victory over Flanagan’s Onions at Somerset Cricket Club on Saturday night.
Deunte Darrell, Vashun Blanchette and Adrian Burrows made the points safe for the home side, with Onions scoring courtesy of Keston Lewis.
Off the back of two draws on the road, the friendly confines of home enabled Trojans to get out of the blocks early and put the match to bed before the half-time whistle.
Darrell opened the scoring in the fourteenth minute before Blanchette doubled the lead just before the break, hitting a drive that Stephen Gould, the Onions goalkeeper, was unable to repel.
With the West End side on top of proceedings from the opening whistle, it was not much of a surprise when Burrows etched his name on the scoresheet in the 60th.
Onions, for all their hard work and commitment to the cause, managed to get a consolation goal through Lewis in the 80th to make the scoreline respectable.
“Games like this are always dangerous,” Burrows said. “When you look at the team, you say it should be easy, but the game is played on the field. We heard about their result against [Dandy] Town last week, which they won, and we put onus in training that the hard work we put in will pay off if we remain focused on the task at hand.
“It is important to win your games at home and get something on your travels. Our last two games were away and we got something out of those matches, and we wanted to make the most of this chance to get more points in the bag.
“We are happy with this and will carry the performance into our next match and see what it gets us.”
