Nahki Wells has been linked with an £8 million move to Premier League side Burnley.

The Bermuda striker earned promotion to England’s top division with Huddersfield Town last season, but has only 12 months remaining on his deal with the Terriers.

The Daily Mirror reported that his contract situation has alerted Sean Dyche’s Clarets, who finished sixteenth in the Premier League last season.

Burnley themselves are struggling to extend the contract of Wells’ fellow striker, Andre Gray, who also has only a year to run on his deal, with Everton reportedly among the clubs interested in signing him.

Huddersfield completed the signing of Belgium striker Laurent Depoitre from Porto for an undisclosed club-record free yesterday.

The 28-year-old has signed on a two-year deal, with the club having an option of a year-long extension.

Depoitre netted two goals in 13 appearances for Porto last season, having signed for the Portuguese giants from Gent last summer.

Depoitre has one cap for Belgium scoring against Andorra.

David Wagner, the Huddersfield head coach, told the Huddersfield Examiner: “I am very happy that we have made Laurent our first signing of this summer window.

“He is a proper striker; one who has played for a very good Belgium side, featured in elite European competition and who has won domestic titles.

“It is great news that we have had the opportunity to sign a player of his quality and now we will focus on getting him back to the top form he showed only a season ago.

“He scores goals and is a real worker too, so he will fit the ‘Terriers Identity’ very well. His attitude on the pitch is exactly what we need, plus he is a very good character off the field too.

“I’m already looking forward to working with Laurent when we return to PPG Canalside for preseason in early July.”

It is understood that Huddersfield also made an £11.5 million bid for Montpellier striker Steve Mounie this week.

Mounie, a pacy 6ft 3in forward, scored 15 goals in a breakthrough campaign for Montpellier last term to help them avoid relegation from the French Ligue 1.
