Trott earns another England call-up

Trott helped England Under-19 to their European Championship win

Nathan Trott has been included in the England Under-20 squad for upcoming matches against Holland and Switzerland.

The Bermudian goalkeeper has been named in England Under-20 coach Keith Downing’s 21-man squad, along with West Ham United team-mate Reece Oxford.

England will take on the Dutch next Thursday before travelling to Switzerland for a match four days later.

Trott was part of Downing’s England Under-19 squad who won the European Championship in Georgia, by beating Portugal 2-1 in the final last month.

He was an unused substitute throughout the tournament, but played his part on the training pitch, his inclusion in Downing’s squad arriving just months after switching his international allegiance from Bermuda to England.

The 18-year-old has established himself as West Ham’s first-choice goalkeeper at under-23 level and has been named among the Hammers’ 46-man Premier League roster that manager Slaven Bilic will select from this season.

Trott is West Ham’s third-choice goalkeeper, behind England international Joe Hart, who is on loan from the club’s Premier League rivals Manchester City, and Spaniard Adrián.

The former BAA and Bermuda Under-17 player signing an initial 2½-year deal with West Ham in January 2016, which has since been extended until 2020.

Oxford, who has been capped twice for the England Under-20 side, is on loan at Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Trott and Oxford are not the only West Ham players called to England international duty as Hart and Aaron Cresswell have been called up by the senior team for their two World Cup qualifiers next month.

England take on Malta in Attard on September 1 before hosting Slovakia at Wembley three days later as they look to extend their lead at the top of group F.
