First Prev 1 2 Next Last

The son of a former Bermuda goalkeeper coach has been named in England's squad for their matches against Spain and Switzerland.

Marcus Bettinelli, the Fulham goalkeeper, is the son of Vic Bettinelli, a close friend of Derek Broadley, a former Bermuda Football Association technical director.

The 26-year-old goalkeeper was not in Fulham's squad for their first two matches of the Premier League season but has regained his place and has played against Burnley and Brighton & Hove Albion.

He made 30 appearances last season and played in Fulham's 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the Championship play-off final at Wembley Stadium.

His father Vic Bettinelli is the Fulham Under-18 goalkeeper coach and a former Gillingham reserve team goalkeeper.

Vic Bettinelli was brought in by Broadley to work with Bermuda's goalkeepers in 2008 for their World Cup qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago and their Digicel Caribbean Cup campaign in Cayman Islands.

Both father and son visited the island in 2010 to put on a training session for the now defunct Bermuda Hogges at BFA Field.

Broadley was named as Charleston Battery's first youth technical director last year.

He spent several years at Knoxville Force as their coaching director and academy director after leaving his BFA post in 2011.

England face Spain at Wembley in their opening Uefa Nations League game on Saturday, before playing Switzerland at Leicester's King Power Stadium on Tuesday.

Vic Bettinelli, a former Bermuda goalkeeper coach, and his son Marcus Bettinelli, the Fulham goalkeeper, put on a coaching session at BFA Field in 2010. Marcus Bettinelli has been called up by England
