Detre Bell warns best is yet to come from unbeaten Village

Detre Bell believes the best is yet to come from North Village.

It is perhaps a sobering thought considering Kenny Thompson’s team have yet to be beaten in all competitions to date this season.

“I expected this start from us and I still think we are not where we should be yet,” Bell told The Royal Gazette. “I know this team is much more capable of playing better football.”

Remarkably, not only are Village unbeaten but they are also yet to concede in the league so far.

The last time they were scored against was in a 3-3 draw with Dandy Town during the Dudley Eve Trophy group stage on September 20.

Bell made his first appearance between the posts in Village’s 1-0 win away to PHC Zebras in their league season opener ten days later and has yet to be beaten in his four league and cup appearances to date.

“Having four clean sheets in a row is a good feeling, not only for me but for the team,” he added.

“Obviously the goal is to not get scored on, and it’s not an easy thing to do, which is why I can’t take all the credit.

“The defence has been fantastic and these clean sheets do not happen without them. Also keeping these clean sheets is a confidence booster for the team.”

Bell has done an excellent job holding his end of the bargain.

“The thing I have been doing to help the team, even on the days where I am not needed, is communicating with the guys in front of me,” he said. “Also another thing is bringing the energy into training.

“But most importantly for me is bringing my A game every single time I step on to that field.

“I know me being a good goalkeeper brings confidence in to the team, but I still have my own goals and dreams I want to achieve. And I think the only way to go about that is to stay focus, which will obviously continue to make the team better.”

Meanwhile, league action resumes today with Hamilton Parish hosting PHC in the Premier Division at Wellington Oval, beginning at 3pm.

There are also two First Division matches scheduled for today with Southampton Rangers hosting BAA (2pm) and Paget taking on Somerset Eagles (4pm) in double header at Southampton Oval.

Tomorrow’s remaining Premier Division fixtures will see unbeaten St George’s host struggling Robin Hood at Wellington Oval while Village are at home to Somerset Trojans at Bernard Park. Both matches start at 3pm.

First Division action also continues tomorrow with unbeaten leaders Young Men’s Social Club facing Ireland Rangers at Police Field and Wolves and Devonshire Colts doing battle at Wellington Oval. Both matches start at 12.30pm.
