Last chance to sign up for May 24

Organisers of the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby have urged those wanting to compete in the historic event to sign up before tomorrow's deadline.

The event, in its 110th year, will take place from St George's on Friday, May 24, from 9am. However, with reaceday looming, those wishing to compete only have until tomorrow to guarantee their place on the start line, with the race number collection in the Argus parking lot, Trott Road, Hamilton from 10am-1pm, the last chance to register.

“We'd love as many people to sign up and Saturday's number collection will be the last chance to do so,” Gina Tucker, the Bermuda Half Marathon Derby committee president, said.

“We have pretty fair numbers so far, but we are hopeful there will be quite a few more by the end of Saturday.

“It is a celebratory event and for the event to keep running we need people to keep running.

“The fact it has been going on for 110 years is just marvelous and speaks volumes for everyone that has been involved from the start and passed the torch on since.

“It is not often that you get the chance to run on a public holiday and have the nation cheering you on. It is a great event and we'd love as many people to be involved as possible.”

Tomorrow's number collection will also coincide with the health and fitness expo. Swag bags and Derby T-shirts will be issued to the first 700 half-marathon participants and 100 relay teams to collect their race numbers. Late registration (online only) is $65 today, while final registration (at number collection), will cost $80. Entry fee does not include the cost of the ferry and is non-refundable and non-transferable.
