Pair hit Carifta mark as records tumble

Jessica Bruton and Alyson Scherer reached qualifying marks for next year’s Carifta Games during the Winter Age Group Championship at the BASA pool.

On the last event of a rainy weekend, Bruton and Scherer swam in the 11-12 girls 50-metres freestyle time trial, where they both recorded a AA time to make them eligible for selection to next year’s team.

Scherer, of Harbour Swim Club, placed first in 30.65 seconds while Bruton, of Sharks, was second in 30.87 seconds.

Several records were set on Saturday, with Emma Harvey lowering marks in four events during an outstanding day in the pool.

She set a new record in the 400-metres individual medley, swimming 5:15.41 to break the record of 5:17.89.

Harvey also set new records in the 100-metres butterfly, when she swam 1:04.06 to beat the previous record of 1:05.48, as well as the 200-metres individual medley where she swam 2:27.01 to break the record time of 2:31.92.

Harvey also set a new record in the 200 butterfly, lowering the mark from 2:31.97 with her time of 2:25.28.

Jesse Washington claimed two records, the 100 freestyle where he 52.40 seconds to lower the mark from 52.81, and the 100 metres butterfly where he swam 58.57 to break the old record time of 58.69.

Keagan Woolley also set two records, in the 50 breaststroke with his time of 35.35 which broke the record of 36.80.

He also won the 100 breaststroke, breaking the record of 1:19.80 with his new mark of 1:17.01.

Skyler Powell set a new mark in the 800-metres free, winning in 9:44.04 to break the previous record of 9:45.34.
