Bermuda artists invited to design new tennis trophy

Local artists will compete for the right to design the trophy collection for the Bermuda Tennis Championships.

The ATP Challenger Tour event will be held on island from March 23 to 30 next year, and the artistic community has been invited to showcase its local talent in a competition in which the winner will receive $4,000 and the right to design the trophies.

With the aim of celebrating the spirit of tennis, the trophies will be handed out to the finalists in the singles and doubles competitions.

Interested artists must submit their proposals by December 24.

The winner will be contacted on January 1 and commit to delivering the trophies to the tournament by March 1.

Bermudians, or spouses of Bermudians, interested in the competition should send an e-mail to info@samegroup.bm to request the Project Scope document, which includes a detailed breakdown of the trophies required, deadlines and payment schedule.

The 2025 Bermuda Championships is the rebirth of an historic tournament first held on the island in 1879.

Bermuda played an historic role in the introduction of tennis to the United States when Mary Outerbridge holidayed here in the 1870s and returned to the US with all the equipment needed to play. The first tennis court was reportedly installed by Outerbridge in 1874 at the Staten Island Cricket and Baseball Club in New York.
