No flying will be permitted over the Great Sound during the Bermuda Sail Grand Prix next month.

The Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority announced that a temporary no-fly zone will be in effect in the area between 9am and 5pm from May 6 to 10.

The authority stated: “For the safety of event participants, spectators and the general public, please note that the flying of non-participating aircraft, unmanned aircraft (drones), microlights, gliders, airships and balloons will be prohibited in the temporary no-fly zone.

“However, an approved helicopter will be flying in this airspace.”

Rules for the use of drones and other unmanned aircraft, including within Bermuda’s five permanent no-fly zones — Westgate Correctional Facility, King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, LF Wade International Airport, Prospect police headquarters and the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute — remain in place.
