Fitness isn’t only about strength – it’s about resilience
I once had a client who stopped training altogether because they travelled a lot and felt they weren’t being consistent. Life gets busy, especially when you’re travelling or juggling responsibilities. But what I’ve learnt through years of training is that consistency is key; it doesn’t always have to be perfect.
You don’t have to stop training just because you’re off island. You can make intentional ways of movement. Whether you’re in a hotel room, an airport, or staying with friends and family, there’s always something you can do. A few rounds of bodyweight squats, push-ups and planks. A quick walk instead of a ride. Even stretching before bed works wonders. These little acts of movement keep your momentum going.
For those who may be battling against illnesses such as lupus, chronic fatigue, or any other condition that makes exercise difficult, know this: you’re not behind. Some days, your body will whisper, “Rest.” Listen to it. But on those restful days, you can still nurture your wellness through what you can control — hydration, nutrition and mindset. Choose whole foods, eat with intention, and remind yourself that rest is also part of training.
The goal is to stay persistent. Fitness isn’t a straight line. It’s a rhythm that flows through the ups, downs and disturbances of life. There will be days when you move boulders, and days when you simply breathe and recover. Both count.
What matters most is that you don’t disconnect from the process entirely. If you’re travelling, schedule an online session, pack a resistance band, or set a ten-minute movement goal each day. If you’re unwell, set a goal to eat one nutrient-dense meal, drink enough water, or stretch gently.
It’s about finding a pattern that keeps you connected, even when you can’t do everything you want to.
Because fitness isn’t only about strength, it’s about resilience. It’s about honouring your body, meeting yourself where you are, and remembering that progress doesn’t stop when life changes. It simply looks a little different.
So whether you’re packing your suitcase or pushing through an especially challenging week, keep showing up, in whatever way you can. That’s where real transformation begins.
