Cricket summer clinics have boosted Jordan's confidence, batting skills

For the past four years, since the summer of 2007 when I was nine years old, I have been attending cricket clinics in the UK.

My mom did an online search for cricket camps in the UK and signed me up. Based on her research, she signed me up to attend clinics at the Lancashire County Cricket Club in Manchester, England because she felt that was the best fit for me.

I have been to three clinics at the Lancashire County Cricket Club where, in addition to cricket skills, I was taught how to have a good mental attitude, eat healthier foods, and to take better care of myself.

I've also been to Michael Vaughn's camp, but the best of all has Gary Palmer's Cricket Coach Master Academy.

I attended this camp in April during the spring break and feel it has been the best so far because it is more structured, disciplined and strict.

Mr. Palmer has taught me more than the other academies. I can tell that I have improved tremendously since going to this camp.

There was a limit of 15 kids so that Mr. Palmer could have more discipline and more direct contact with each student.

I was the only overseas student, strictly speaking.

There are children who were born in other countries but who currently live in the UK, and they do come from all over the UK.

But I was the only child who came to the UK just for the camp.

I have learned lots of things that are going to help me become a great cricketer because these coaches are very disciplined and the students must cooperate and stay focused.

For example, I am very strong at the off-drive shot, but when I switched to the on-drive shot, my feet would still be in the off-drive position.

So, I learned to play a better on-drive shot from a set position by leaning into the ball with my head and exaggerating my shot.

At these camps, I've also learned to have a very good mental attitude, stay focused during any match, and to coach myself as to what I am doing wrong on the field and how to do it better.

I have also had the chance to meet some professional cricketers like Paul Collingwood, Dirk Nanes, James Ferguson, Jonathon Trott, James Anderson and Mitchell Johnson, but my idols are Graeme Swann and Sachin Tendulkar.

This is all a part of my cricket life so far and I would like to thank my mom and family for encouraging me.

Currently I play for Southampton Rangers and I've been chosen to train with the Under 13 National Squad for Bermuda.

My goal in life is to play for Lancashire County Cricket Club and the Bermuda National Squad.

My personal motto is: "The future is not ahead of you; it's trapped within you!"
