A transformational experience for students, teachers

“Don’t judge a book by its cover” is the main message that hundreds of students and staff members acquired from “The Event” on Monday January 19 put on by Chain Reaction Bermuda at CedarBridge Academy.

“The Event” is described as “an experience that has the potential to transform lives, school cultures and a community”. From 8.30am until 3.30pm students and staff participated in an intense, life-changing, team-building experience called “The Event” in respect of Rachel Joy Scott’s Chain Reaction Movement.

In the first half of the day, students watched videos, played games, participated in ice breakers and team-building activities in workshops conducted by trained overseas representatives of the Chain Reaction Movement. In the second half of the day, things got really emotional.

The students and teachers shed a few tears by listening to the instructors’ heartfelt stories and while also listening to the personal stories of students and teachers at CedarBridge Academy, letting them know that no matter what you go through, you are not alone.

Precious Perinchief, an S4 student and the Chain Reaction CBA “Target Letter’s” Group Leader, stated, “Overall, I learned that you shouldn’t judge people that you don’t know because you never know what they are going through outside of school.” She also said that, “Even though people go through serious situations, they often times put on a mask and pull it off and come to school and act like everything is great.”

Collin Stewart, a Physical Education Teacher at CedarBridge who also participated in “The Event” expressed, “Well, basically, I saw it as an opportunity for the entire school to come together and it was a bonding experience for everyone as a school family. We got to relate to each other, in regards to various situations, problems, or issues, which we may have experienced in or outside of school.”

When asked if they would both participate again they both said, yes something similar to it but not the same thing.

The CBA family would like to extend their unwavering gratitude to Chain Reaction Bermuda and Pastor Gary Simons and his dedicated team.
