  • The joy of music: TN Tatem M1 students brought some Christmas cheer to the Lorraine Rest Home in Warwick by singing Christmas carols with the residents

  • Caring and sharing: M1 students Kiwon Waldron, front, and D?Sean Watson in the background, from TN Tatem Middle School shared some of their youthful energy planting flowers to beautify Lorraine Rest Home.

A group of M1 students decided to spend Community Service Day 2011 at the Lorraine Rest Home performing many tasks to assist the senior citizens.

These students are in Carmen Jones, Leslie Evans and Monique Paul’s advisory classes.

A few of the many tasks assigned to us were weeding the gardens, planting flower beds, and picking “ripened” beans in order for them to be served at the Seniors’ Christmas lunch.

Wearing our gardening gear and armed with shovels, we worked to complete our assignments. Although it was rainy weather and our knees were muddy, we still fulfilled our mission of service.

Following the gardening detail, a smaller group of students wearing Santa hats and ringing bells, performed Christmas carols to help bring the joy of Christmas to the elderly residents.

As a parting gift, we presented the seniors with homemade short bread cookies made by our very own hands in our school’s very own kitchen.

We felt that bringing joy and showing good will to the residents of the Lorraine Rest Home was a great experience for them and for us. We look forward to returning to assist them in the future.
